today is day 4 of the one week intensive tuition i am giving my new korean kid. phew! all i can say is primary school math these days is not as easy as it used to be. back in 1998, i was doing questions like this:

john ran from town A to town B at the speed of 10km/h. He took 10 min. Find the
distance between the 2 towns.

these days the questions look like this:

At 8000hrs, mr lee drove 1/3 of the distance from town A to town B at the speed of 70km/h. At 1030hrs, He stopped for lunch before travelling the remaining distance at 80km/h. find the amount of time he took for lunch if he arrived at town B at 1445hrs.

wa lao, apart from the fact that JOHN is now all grown up to become MR LEE and upgraded from running to driving.... i dun understand why they have to complicate matters and make life difficult for the kid and yup, the poor tuition teacher. gone are the good old days where primary maths was simple affairs compared to science ( which i completely sucked at). ok, i bet now even the science is more cheem. no wonder pple say kids nowadays dun get to enjoy their childhood. i totally agree. their whole life revolves around school work and tuition. poor things. sometimes though i feel old while looking at them, i am very very glad i was born in the 80s era. ha, i sorta miss the blackboard and chalk and the yellow recycled paper they used to print our test papers on. the other day, i was quite shocked to find that my primary one girl at henderson didnt know what was BLACKBOARD and CHALK. i was about to ask her how can she dunno. then it hit me that she has never seen them in her entire 7 year life cos long b4 she knew how to read, they already changed the blackboard to whiteboards. WOAH. i didnt even realise the gap btw us was so huge till that moment. shitty i feel so old already....

but lucky for me, the korean girl is still quite good at her math. only has problems with the english terms in the VERY CHEEM MATH QUESTIONS. i was initially so worried how i am going to teach her cos of the language barrier, but her english though minimal was still comphrehendable.

anyways, this old woman is filled up to her neck with sch work. (like wat's new huh?) arrrggh, all the datelines to meet is driving me crazy. thank goodness for girly shopping days out with the beloved poon. wah aha. yesterday's thai express dinner and MOF desserts at marina were certainly much needed breaks. poon, we shld go out on two-somes more often ok! :)

btw, anybody knows the title of this cantonese duet by jacky cheung and sammi cheng? ( nt sure is it jacky but the female singer shld be sammi...) i am loving it but cant seem to find the title. the song name on my mp3 says: cantonese duet. duh.i also have no idea how it ever got into my mp3, but the chorus is so catchy and the lyrics are damn nice. utter sadness when i cant find it anywhere online:(
