when the old national library closed in 2004, there was a rather big whoo-ha about the the loss of a very special place in the heart of many singaporeans. at that time it didnt really bother me cos i didnt really visit that place that much when it was still along stamford road.

however today, i mourn the closing of the library@orchard. the library located on level 5 of ngee ann city, ya the taka building...that place held more significance to me cos i spent many happy times there. being convieniently located smack in the middle of town, meant i had the excuse the pop by for a good read or while time away when meeting friends. i remember i was a young girl (probably around lower sec), my dad used to drop me there and i can spend hours reading while the rest of the family went shopping. and then when i was waiting for entrance to uni, i worked at taka and i would spend my break times sneaking to the library to flip some magazines, or listen to the music stands there.

i loved the parquet flooring which i used to think was damn sophisticated, the deco and soft lighting. its a great place for all the i-want-to-be alone moments. the familiarity of that place is always comforting. plus, they always have a good range and up to date collection of books. many of my fav books i have read have been borrowed from there.

and yet, today, it had to open its doors for the last time. all cos the rent it was paying was too low. damn. wat a lousy excuse is it. i heard that the space will be used for retail purpose. dumb dumb. i rather have a library there anytime. orchard has so many place to shop le lor.

sadded. orchard@library would be part of a special memory from now on. :(
